Course content & learning objectives

Chapters

Chapter 1 – Situation Overview

You make the initial decisions in the heat of the moment during a potential cyberattack: disconnect devices, assess suspicious alerts, and report any suspicions without hesitation.

Chapter 2 – Alarm Chain

Under mounting pressure, you follow the standard reporting chain and decide how much you can say – both privately and to the press – about the ongoing incident.

Chapter 3 – Emergency Mode

Exhausted but pragmatic, you manage to handle emergency operations: continue critical processes manually, adhere to equipment guidelines, and answer inquiries without access to data.

Chapter 4 – Restart and Precautions

Feeling relieved and determined, you decide on the right time to return to normal work, openly share your experiences, and recognize phishing attempts following the incident.

Learning objectives

  • You can recognize the signs of a cyberattack and distinguish it from a routine technical glitch.
  • You list the correct immediate steps: disconnect the device from the network without turning it off, and contact the appropriate person.
  • You follow your organization's official reporting chain, even if digital communication channels are down.
  • You report a suspected incident immediately, knowing that a security incident is not a personal failure.
  • You classify that many organizations may be subject to staged reporting deadlines under the German BSI Act, depending on sector and size.

Content & Relevance

Down! is an interactive serious game that realistically simulates a cyberattack on a public authority or company and guides employees through several decision points. Since numerous organizations are subject to legal reporting and security duties under the German BSI Act, and sensitive data must be protected in every industry, hands-on cyber security training is relevant for many organizations.
The game covers the staged reporting duty under the German BSI Act, which applies to essential and important entities across numerous sectors, as well as the General Data Protection Regulation in case of loss of personal data. Whether and to what extent the reporting duty applies to your own organization depends on sector and size and is governed internally. It also addresses official confidentiality when dealing with the press and private contacts.

Licensing, Updates, Demo
